William has recently graduated from Cardiff University, where he gained a degree in Dental Technology, and is now working as a Dental Technician alongside father Colin Dale, Head of the Dental Technician team.
The Centre is unique. By combining Endodontics, Prosthodontics, Periodontics, Orthodontics, Oral Surgery and Dental Laboratory facilities under one roof, the Wessex Dental Specialist Centre is able to offer a fully integrated service. The role of the Dental Lab is to make teeth for crowns, bridges and implants that are required, both from the specialist areas at the Centre, as well as from external dentists.
Traditionally dental laboratories are located in separate premises from dental practices. However at the Wessex Dental Specialist Centre, Colin and William work closely alongside the dentists and are involved in the design and delivery of the dental crowns, bridges and implants from an early stage.
William will join a team of five technicians, working on individual projects from start to finish, and in collaboration with the specialists at the Centre. His role involves the full process of teeth production, from visiting the patient to establish what is required, through to reviewing the fitted tooth to ensure a correct match is made.
William has always had an interest in his father’s job, and remembers being fascinated by the moulds that Colin brought home: “I thought they were amazing and I even took one in to show and tell when I was at school.” William recalls. “As I got older, I really began to appreciate the artistic value of what the Laboratory does, as each project is like a little work of art, to ensure that we get the teeth as realistic as possible.”
Colin added: “I am delighted that William has decided to join the team. I never actively pushed him to follow in my footsteps, but when he expressed an interest in becoming a dental technician, I was very proud. Having William in the team has not changed anything, except I now have some company when I travel into work!”
