Specialists at the Hampshire-based Wessex Dental Specialist Centre have again helped to raise the standard of dentistry in the region following the recent delivery of three modules of the Astra Tech mentoring programme.

Martin Lovell and Michael Thomas, Specialists in Prosthodontics at the Centre and Stephen Taylor, Specialist in Oral Surgery, delivered the three modules which allowed local dentists to gain initial training in the complex, specialised area of implant dentistry. The Astra Tech mentoring network puts dentists in touch with the experienced implant practitioners to act as mentors during their learning. Using the Centre as the location for their training meant that the dentists could witness live treatments and play a role in some of the procedures, under the guidance of the Specialists - helping to improve their skills and confidence.

Michael commented on the modules: “As one of the only locations in the UK to provide five different specialist areas of dentistry under one roof, it is great to be able to impart the knowledge that we have gathered here at the Centre onto the local dental community. We are not only committed to having the highest possible standards of dentistry within the Centre, but we also want these standards to be reproduced in the local area, benefiting patients across Hampshire.”

Stewart Becker, dental practitioner who attended the course, and commented: “The Centre has provided a very well-structured and motivating course on implant dentistry. Michael, Martin and Stephen always had time to answer questions and guide us on the topic and I would highly recommend the course to fellow GDP’s.”
