24th October 2007

The 2007 Open Day provided the perfect opportunity for attendees to meet the seven Specialists at the Centre, based in Fareham, who would be looking after their patients. There was also the unique opportunity to take part in hands-on workshops, under the guidance of the Centre’s Specialists, which gave the dentists a greater understanding of everything the Centre has to offer, knowledge which will ultimately benefit the wider dental community.
Using the Centre’s live-link, visitors could observe Stephen Taylor, Specialist in Oral Surgery, conducting implant surgery. There was also a session where dentists could discuss individual cases treated at the Centre, gaining an insight into their innovative approach.
The event concluded with a talk from guest speaker Mark Woolford, Acting Director of Education at the King’s College London Dental Institute. Mark’s talk on ‘The Future of Education in Dentistry’ discussed the possibility that dental training could be privatised, which could impact on the number of trainee dentists qualifying in future.
The Open Day was well-received by all those who attended, many of whom enjoyed the chance to experience the Centre’s modern surroundings and its friendly staff first-hand. Clinical Director Michael Thomas commented on the event: “There has been such a positive atmosphere here today thanks to everyone who has attended. It’s great that we have had this opportunity to host such a vibrant Open Day at which everyone involved was so keen to learn, share knowledge and discuss best practice – which of course ensures that our patients get the highest level of dental care possible!”
