A Specialist in Periodontics, Alan qualified from Kings College, London in 1968 and, following practice in UK and New Zealand, spent 16 years in the Royal Naval Dental Service.
During that time he completed a Masters degree in Periodontics at London University, gaining a Distinction. Since then he has devoted most of his time to Periodontics as both a clinician and a teacher of dentists and hygienists, within the Service and later as a lecturer at the Eastman Dental Hospital, London.
Previously a Council member of the British Society of Periodontology and founder member of its Education Committee, he plays a keen role in the development of the regulations for the introduction of Specialists into European and UK dentistry.
Alan left the Royal Navy in 1990 and gained the Membership in Restorative Dentistry of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1995.
At its inception in 1998, Alan was entered onto the GDC Specialists List in Periodontics and in 1999 was invested as a Fellow of the International College of Dentists in recognition of his services to Periodontology. He now only accepts patients for periodontal and implant-related treatment.
Over the past 15 years Alan has taken a keen interest in the development of regenerative techniques for new bone and its support for failing teeth. He has achieved notable clinical success, successfully using these techniques with grafting procedures for the restoration of missing soft tissues, thus gaining visible improvement where gum recession has caused cosmetic problems.
Alan has also placed over 200 implants in the "aesthetic zone", where the relationship between the implant, its crown and the soft tissues is vital for a good cosmetic result.
Alan relies on his team of three highly experienced dental hygienists for much of the initial and supportive care of periodontal patients, which is complemented by an efficient chairside and support staff. This support ensures the smooth running of the busy department, which cares for over 700 patients.

Stanley then went on to study a Masters in Endodontics at King’s College in London, and was awarded the Practitioner Prize from the British Endodontic Society in 2006.
Stanley originally thought about a career in engineering, after realising that he was very good with his hands, but finally settled with dentistry after becoming interested in the technical expertise involved.
